The sapphire symbolizes nobility, wisdom and truth. Its deep blue color has long been tied to royalty, hence the term “royal blue”. Back in medieval times, kings wore these gems to guard against evil and harm.

Sapphires have often been thought to help with mental clarity, intuition and gaining wisdom. They are a catalyst for opening lines of communication, honesty and trust. In Christianity, sapphires were used in ecclesiastical rings. The Greeks wore sapphires when speaking to the Oracles. Hindus placed them at their altars, and Buddhists believed they would bring enlightenment and wisdom.

Sapphire is derived from the Greek word sapphirus, meaning “blue”.
